Welcome to Tuesday Forum
Tuesday Forum was the brainchild of Joy Oldridge who began it with a small group of women in 1972. Its main aim was, and still is, to provide intellectual stimulation through a lecture forum at a monthly meeting. Initially the membership was exclusively women but, over the years, membership includes a growing number of men. A secondary aim is to assist the local community through donations to charities and bursaries where possible. At the November meeting we choose a charity and ask someone from that organisation to speak about it. The collection which follows at the end of the meeting always shows the great generosity of our members.
When U3A Pretoria began, its founding committee decided that, since Tuesday Forum was well established and many of its members would also join U3A, they would only hold quarterly meetings with invited speakers. U3A’s orientation is more towards courses and excursions while Tuesday Forum provides monthly talks by a variety of speakers. The two organisations are thus closely linked.
Ten meetings are held annually from February to November, normally on the first Tuesday of each month.
